{"id":81,"count":30,"description":"This page is for information related to NEW ZEALAND specifically.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe situation now:<\/strong>\r\nDesignated blood donations are usually not done in hospitals anywhere in New Zealand, as the latest case of the parents fighting for their child clearly shows - it looks like there is no law anymore, and \u2013 there is no free choice of the donor blood.\r\nAnd please note, as clearly stated on our home page at the bottom and below here:\u00a0There is no place yet in New Zealand where you can donate uncontaminated blood<\/strong>\u00a0which is then labeled as such, and there is NO clinic which will allow you to bring your own blood or any other donor of your choice. 10 years ago, yes. Now? Not possible anymore. This is what we go against.\r\n\r\nWhat WE do:\r\n<\/strong>Our acting plans:<\/em>\r\nWe are in the process of setting up a team for New Zealand, in close collaboration with Australia, which will try to find the most feasible way to reach our goal, the free choice of blood (and blood donor). This will happen though finding medical partners (hospitals, laboratory chains, private practices etc.), and most importantly, by trying to reduce the need for transfusions in general with clear advises for medical staff in our members\u2018 living will<\/a>.\r\nIf we can not find suitable partners, we will have to set up our own chain of places to donate and store blood (blood bank).\r\nThe domain safeblood.nz<\/a> is up and running, with individual direct contacts<\/a> to the team.\r\nA telegram channel for easy information will complement this page here.\r\n\r\nWhat YOU can do:<\/strong>\r\n\r\nIf you want to join us and help within the team, please contact us<\/a>.\r\nSpread the word, and most importantly, become a member<\/a> \u2013 because only together we are strong.\r\n\r\nPlease note that there are NO blood donation stations set up yet, nowhere in New Zealand, as we need medical partners for this purpose first. This will take some time. Check back here frequently and subscribe to our newsletter<\/a>.\r\n\r\nIf you need blood NOW<\/strong>, because you have a scheduled surgery coming up, the closest option for New Zealanders is to go to India, Thailand, the US or South America, where many hospitals allow the free choice of blood donor.
